A week ago, Hythe Care Homes announced they would be making a donation to the Ukraine Appeal.
As an organisation we were so appalled by the devastation we were seeing on the news that we had to try and do something to help support the people of Ukraine. A huge amount of food, babies’ nappies/formula and medication were bought to send out to Ukraine.
We then posted on our Facebook pages that if anyone in our community would like to donate to the cause, you could drop off your donations to our homes in Hythe. Any of our Facebook friends outside of Hythe could drop off at NOTHING BUT MOTs in Ashford and any of the other Kent branches.
THE RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING!!!!!
The generosity of the people in the local communities was beyond imaginable. The donations came flooding in all day, every day.
For the entire week the staff in the care homes offered their own time to help sort the donations into categories ready for transportation.
It has been a mammoth task – but with all the help from the central support team, activities, carers, reception, admin, home managers, residents, and friends – we finally got there!!
We found a local drop off point in Folkestone, who fill containers daily and have them shipped in lorries straight to Poland and then distributed to the Ukrainian families in need.
We started this thinking the donations would be a couple of carloads but ended up being two transit vans full!!
Hythe care would like to say a special thank you to Ashford Self Hire, in Ashford for lending a van to NOTHING BUT MOTS to ship their donations to the collection point and Relyon Van Hire in Dover for assisting Hythe Care Homes with their donations. Both van hire companies offered their vans free of charge and no fuel costs which was absolutely FANATASTIC!! Thank you so much!
Also, a huge thank you to Steve Pompeus and Luke D’Ath for driving the vans for us to the collection point.THANK YOU to everyone who made this happen!!!!It’s heart-warming to know that, as a community, we will pull together to help those in need.
